Birmingham Proof House established

At the gun trade's own request, Parliament incorporates a compulsory proof house for Birmingham — by then the world's largest gunmaking center — alongside London's. Follow-up Acts in 1815 and 1855 add penalties for selling unproved barrels and a two-stage proof, though contemporaries complained that evasion and forged proof marks persisted.
