One-piece cast-iron cannon

By the mid-fourteenth century Chinese foundries had made iron casting reliable enough to pour cannon barrels in a single piece, replacing the forged or composite construction that was prone to bursting. Single-cast barrels were cheaper to produce and more uniform, pointing toward mass manufacture of artillery.
