Ottoman bombards at Constantinople

The Ottoman siege of Constantinople deployed enormous cast bombards, including a gun reputedly able to hurl a stone ball of several hundred kilograms, against the Theodosian Walls that had defended the city for a thousand years. The walls' breach is a landmark demonstration that heavy gunpowder artillery had rendered traditional fortifications obsolete.
