Song ban on gunpowder ingredients

The Song court prohibited private trade in sulfur and saltpeter, the key gunpowder ingredients, and over the following decade extended the restriction to cross-border sales to the rival Liao and Western Xia states. It is among the earliest recorded state controls on the materials of gunpowder weapons.
